All Curtas listed for sale here have been cleaned, adjusted, and lubricated according to factory service documentation, using factory tools, fixtures, materials, and methods. All mechanical anomalies found on these machines have been corrected. Any items that required replacement have been exchanged with NOS (New, Old Stock) factory original parts.

All of these fine instruments are guaranteed to operate as they did when originally delivered from the factory.

Some Curtas are supplied with their original instruction manual or other paperwork such as a warranty card. If original paperwork is not stipulated, an excellent English language reprint of Contina's instruction manual entitled, "Instructions for Use of the Curta" will be provided. An original Scientific American magazine publisher's "tear sheet" of their January 2005 article, "The Curious History of the World's First Pocket Calculator", will also be included with each Curta purchased.

Unless mentioned otherwise, each Curta comes with its original metal or plastic canister. The condition of the canister is identified separately from that of the Curta itself. If no canister is supplied the listing will state so.

Some Curtas come with both a canister and a leather case. And some Curtas have only a leather case. When only a leather case is supplied, this means the leather case is designed to hold the Curta without a canister. When a canister and a leather case are supplied, the leather case is sized to hold the Curta within its canister.

Shipping is extra. Generally, Flat Rate Priority Mail shipping to locations within the US is the least costly. Insurance is optional. International shipping via Registered Airmail is recommended. Of course, any requested shipping method can be arranged.

Prices are based on model (Type I or II), condition/quality (internal as well as external), age (determined by serial number), style (components used during the original assembly), accessory items (type of canister, literature, etc.), provenance, and overall appearance.

Do keep in mind that the cleaning, adjusting and lubrication service work peformed on each of these Curtas amounts to several hundred dollars, and must be considered when making price comparisons.

The condition of each Curta listed here is based upon a Curta rating system published in the Curta.org website. As a convenience, excerpts from those ratings have been reprinted here.

  • Mint -- essentially "new, in box". The instrument's condition is absolutely perfect without a single mark, scratch, discoloration, paint chip, or wear mark anywhere (including the bottom perimeter, crank handle, clearing plate, and the tips of the knurled hand grips.) The canister must also be absolutely perfect without a single mark or scratch...

  • Excellent -- only a few high points on the knurled hand grips worn from insertion/removal in/out of the canister; very minimal wear on the bottom perimeter of the body where it rests on a surface; very light scratching allowed on a plastic crank arm upper surface caused by the fingernail as the crank is turned; no fading of the black anodizing due to sunlight; grey paint on a Type II is bright and sparkling clean, no paint chips; a nearly imperceptible amount of wear on the top surface/edge of the clearing plate where the clearing lever swings back and forth...

  • Very Fine -- no dents, only minor wear along the perimeter edge of the clearing plate over which the clearing lever swings; some wear on the bottom perimeter of the body where it sits on a surface; very minimal mottling of the nameplate surface. Scratches allowed on a plastic or metal crank arm upper surface caused by the fingernail as the crank is turned; black anodizing on body may have very slight mottling or uniform fading due to sunlight; grey paint on a Type II is in superb condition but may have some darkening (yellowing) due to oils and handling, and perhaps one or two extremely small paint chips...

  • Fine -- no dents, the clearing lever has worn away some of the black anodizing upon the top flat surface of the clearing plate; the bottom nameplate can have as much as 75% of the anodizing worn off around its perimeter; slight damage and/or mottling of the nameplate surface; a couple small scratches or a few very small paint chips and/or localized darkening on grey bodied Type IIs due to oils and handling; black anodizing may have light mottling or uneven fading, or very light scratches and pin point scars; most tips of the knurled grip on the body and crank knob show some surface wear...

  • Very Good -- a totally inexperienced person can find distracting flaws after a simple cursory examination...

  • Good -- looks and functions as a well used machine...

  • Fair -- worn out; extreme loss of paint and/or anodizing...

  • Poor -- Inoperable parts unit...

  • Very Poor -- in such terrible condition that it cannot even be used for parts.
